Does your home need a pick me up?

You’ve been out of town for a week or two, on a holiday or a business trip. You can’t wait to get back on home territory, catch up with loved ones, sink into your favourite chair and survey your proudest possession: your beautiful home. But it doesn’t work out like that; when you look around there’s the slightest sense of disappointment, a niggling doubt, a feeling that your home’s style and decor are not quite as picture-perfect as you had thought.

If you have been living in your home for a few years, chances are your needs and tastes have changed a bit. If the house is home to a busy family, with young children or teenagers, there’s probably been a fair bit of wear and tear.

But don’t despair. If your home needs a bit of a makeover, or a pick me up, there are lots of ways of accomplishing changes without having to undertake major work.

You might just need to do a quick cosmetic facelift, from new carpets, to a fresh colour scheme for the walls. You can update lighting, replace kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors, and think about some new pieces of furniture.

If you want to do a bit more than quick cosmetic work, think about doing a total update of the kitchen and bathroom – two areas of the home that often date the fastest. Choose classic, timeless styles, shop around to get an idea of the latest trends, and get some expert advice and help when it comes to doing the work.

With some forethought and planning, your home can be changed as your needs change – without the need to think about selling, or rebuilding.
